Beebombs are handmade wildflower seedballs. Made from sheltering Dorset clay and sifted top soil, each Beebomb is packed with 1000s of seeds from bee-friendly wildflower species.
Beebombs need no gardening skill and can be scattered straight onto open ground at any time of the year. Spring and Autumn are perfect sowing times.
Once scattered, you don't need to water or tend your Beebombs. Cleared ground is ideal but not absolutely necessary as wildflowers are hardy and adaptable and should thrive in most environments. Each pellet contains soil to help the wildflower seeds inside to germinate and clay to protect them.
Wildflowers are a little slower to grow than many imported plants and flowers. Some will flower in the first year but most will not come out until the 2nd year.
Your patience will be rewarded with a beautiful wildflower meadow, attracting a range of pollinators and helping to #bringthebeesback
Because of their slower growth, wildflower seedlings can be out-competed by faster growing grasses and perennial weeds at the critical early stages, so sowing the Beebombs straight onto bare earth is recommended if at all possible. Wildflowers thrive best on poor-quality soil, so avoid sowing them in store-bought compost containing added fertilizers.
One pack provides coverage for roughly 21 sq ft / 2m².
Like all products at kuloko, Beebombs use only sustainable packaging with no single-use plastics.
Each Beebomb pack contains:
- One reusable hessian bag with a string closure
- Approximately twenty natural clay pellets containing a special blend of bee-friendly wildflower seeds
- Instruction leaflet
How are Beebombs made?
Seedballs or seedbombs have been used for thousands of years as a natural farming technique and were 're-discovered' by Masanobu Fukuoka, a Japanese government plant scientist who is the forefather of modern natural farming techniques and an inspirational writer and philosopher on the subject of natural farming.
Our Beebombs are made using the Fukuoka method which is widely accepted as the one of the most effective and ethical process for dispersing seeds naturally.
Please note: because of the importance of preserving native species in other countries, our Beebombs are only available for sale within Europe and the UK.
