Very pretty little antique French reliquary depicting our Lady of Lourdes, found in a local Normandy brocante.
In 1858, at a little grotto in Occitan, France, a young girl called Bernadette Soubirous witnessed a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary who identified herself as the Immaculate Conception and asked for a temple to be built at the spot.
This is a beautiful ex voto piece depicting the apparition and is in an old and worn brass frame, mounted under a lovely convex glass and with fragments of heather and moss inside.
The piece is backed with a simple piece of cardboard, and apart from some small dents in the frame and loose pieces of moss under the glass, it is in very good vintage condition.
There is a small hanging loop at the top of the frame.
